Stress Reducing Toolbox
Stressors are part of everyday life. We all
experience them. It is how we react or respond to the stress we
encounter that can create havoc for us. Being prepared and having a
good toolbox of stress-reducing techniques is what can make the
difference between manifesting an illness or remaining healthy though a
stressful encounter. Read through some of the suggestions listed below.
Now may be the time to try some of these ideas so when you really need
a safety net, you already have something in place to catch you.
Make Yourself Top Priority!
All to often we place everyone else's needs ahead of our own. By
ignoring the need to care for ourselves first, we actually, in the long
run limit our ability to help others. Why? Because eventually fatigue,
resentment, or guilt of obligation will creep in. Then when someone may
need us the most, we are too burned out to give assistance
Indulge in Solitude!
One of the best ways to regain peace of mind and restore vitality is to
spend time alone engaging in an activity you enjoy doing alone. Find a
way to spend quality time with your best friend- you!
Get Body Work Done!
So much is readily available today in this area to help relieve stress
and induce relaxation: Massage, Reiki, Shiatsu and Reflexology are just
a few examples of modalities that offer great benefits. Say you can't
afford it? Maybe it requires a bit of preplanning, such as giving up a
week or so of gourmet coffee as a trade off. Or, maybe it is hooking up
with a friend that you can work with on an informal basis to learn to
share treatments with each other.
Attend Classes!
As well as having bodywork done, going to classes to learn new ways to
help yourself assists in putting you in the driver's seat to be able to
help yourself. This often opens the door to other added benefits such
as meeting new friends
Get Physical!
We all know this, but many of us just need constant nudging in this
area to keep us headed in the right direction...so turn on the
music, grab the sneakers, or dust off the treadmill and get the blood
flowing.
Practice Meditation!
This is an easy practice to learn that yields such powerful results.
Making time for this practice is one of the best things you can do for
yourself.
Find Your Da Vinci!
We all have creative impulses running through us. Getting in touch with
our creative side releases a lot of pent up tension, especially as
related to the 2nd Chakra areas.
For more help and information with any of the above suggestions, check
your local health and wellness centers, health food stores, or local
evening schools. There is bound to be something or someone to help you
get floating downstream so you are managing your stress, rather than it
managing you.
